Boat Trips

Puffin with a beak full of sand eels. How does it do that?

The Fame Islands are regularly visited by boats from Seahouses Harbour. In addition to the thrill of being at sea and the wonderful scenery, there is an abundance of wildlife. (List of bird species)

Tens of thousands of seabirds, including puffin, guilemot and razorbills nest on the islands and they may be seen from April to early August.

Grey seals can be seen all year round, with their breeding season in the autumn a highlight. The substantial colony on the Farnes produces some 1000 pups each year.

The National Trust

The Trust owns some of the islands, taking care of the wildlife and charging fees for access.

There are also longer trips to Holy Island and occasional trips out to sea to look out for birds, dolphins and whales.

For up to date information, please telephone boat trip operators. Pre-booking of trips is recommended, particularly during high season.
